Keep talking
At work today, I had an older lady call in to ask how much one of our mattresses weigh. She wasn’t a new customer; she had already bought it a few years ago and was perfectly happy with it. But it was surprisingly heavy when she had to move the thing, so she just got curious and wanted to ask somebody about it.
These days, that’s something you can easily find out in a split second with a quick Google search. Why even bother calling some stranger when you can just look it up?
That’s kinda cold and robotic, you know? With search and AI, you can have even the most technical and obscure questions answered within a matter of seconds. But if we all did that all the time there wouldn’t be too many reasons to actually talk to each other would there? We could all stay in a little pod behind a screen and… just… exist.
I’m a huge tech nerd but human interaction has so much value to me. Even if it’s just asking a simple question and adding on a little bit of conversation to let each other know you’re both in fact human.
