We’ve had this water leak coming from our furnace for probably a month or two. It was just a slow drip at first, so we didn’t notice it right away. I figured it might have been something simple like the humidifier clogging up and not draining properly.

So I tried shutting off the water line to the humidifier for a few days but the leak just got worse. Finally, we called in an HVAC guy to check it out. He found the issue, cut out a section of pipe and replaced it.

Turns out the leak was in the exhaust system that vents gasses out from the furnace. A crack or blockage there could have let carbon monoxide build up inside of the house–and that’s fucking horrifying.

Make sure you have working carbon monoxide detectors! We did not and this could’ve gone a lot worse.

Or maybe there really was a leak and the last few weeks have all been a hallucination. Honestly that would explain a lot. Wishful thinking.
