Remastering Recent Games Is A Pointless, Sisyphean Task
Oblivion already exists in a very playable form that’s just as entertaining and flawed as it was 20 years ago. Also, there are 20 years’ worth of mods to improve all the aspects that Bethesda is pathologically incapable of doing well—UI, facial animations, inventory arrangement, voice acting, textures—to have the game look and run exactly as you want.
I do think it’s kinda trashy to keep releasing remakes of old games just so you can re-market them and sell them one more time to the same audience.
It’s like the Super Mario RPG remake. It would’ve been just as fun if it came with the online bundle like the rest of the old SNES games. It plays exactly the same but they rebuilt it from the ground up to look a little shinier.
So of course I shelled out the $60 for it and thoroughly enjoyed playing it at launch, but then I just replayed it on an emulator recently and it was just as awesome as I remember it from the 90s.
I’m ok with leaving well enough alone.
