Thoughts on Kagi, The Assistant
I resubscribed to Kagi recently, only this time on the Ultimate plan with The Assistant.
I swore off of them for a while after the little bit of drama about integrating Brave Search, but who really gives a shit, you know? You gotta pick your battles. Separate the art from the artist.
If you really hate the Brave guy so much, and I definitely do, you have to swear off JavaScript too. But that’s silly. They aren’t even related to Kagi in any way, other than using their API to give you a few more results. And what do you use if you boycott Kagi? Google? DuckDuckGo? Everyone uses JavaScript.
Kagi is good. Like really good. And The Assistant is very similar to Perplexity in that it gives you all the popular LLMs to choose from and it searches the web to provide you super accurate results to your queries. The only drawback is that there’s no mobile app yet, but the web version works pretty well for now.
Paired with Arc browser, Kagi is a solid complete replacement for Google and individual LLM subscriptions. Definitely worth a shot if you’re on the fence.
Best of all, they embrace indie bloggers with their Small Web feature. It just feels like the search engine to use if you’re into the indie web.
