Average millennial living life on the edge (of the Midwest). Probably too immature for Micro.blog but I like it here.
US Politics: Can't get fooled again
I’ve worked a few different sales positions over the years, but mostly in the furniture business. It’s probably the most notorious for gimmicks, deceptive advertising and terrible customer service.
They advertise things like puncture-proof fabric on sofas, cooling gel or even diamond dust infused mattresses, and they’ll sell you a $400 protection plan that doesn’t really protect anything. They’ll even give you FREE delivery on the $300 couch you just paid $1500 for.
After a while, people stop falling for your shit. In the words of George W. Bush, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice? uhh… can’t get fooled again!”
Oddly enough, even dubya doesn’t support the republican presidential candidate this election. I’ve noticed a lot of other hardcore conservatives taking that same stance lately too.
Since Biden announced he’s not running for re-election, ‘merica is no longer forced to choose between a rich old white guy and a rich old white guy who wants to be a dictator. We now have Harris, who’s a fucking rock star and significantly younger than that washed up guy from The Apprentice. JD Vance is even younger, but no one wants a guy who fucks couches in the white house.
I know we aren’t nearly out of the woods yet; we’re only just getting started. But it seems like Trump’s bullshit is starting to spread thin and a lot of the conservative boomers and misinformed blue collar folks who have been licking his boots for the last decade are slowly starting to figure out he’s only in it for the power.
I’m at least starting to feel a little optimistic for the future of the US for the first time in a long time.
